MVEP combines bi-annual workshops with self-directed assessment modules that provide museums with a step-by-step approach to understanding what various visitor types look for in museums, and how to provide opportunities to engage with them.
The Museum Visitor Experience Program launched on March 11, 2015 with a one-day workshop by Tim Willis at the Reynolds-Alberta Museum. The workshop discussed the theory of the museum visitor experience, reviewed principles of creating a positive museum experience for visitors, and introduced participants to the five modules.
Participants received bound copies of the modules, and were given an opportunity to try out the self-assessment modules in the Reynolds-Alberta Museum and receive feedback before returning to their own institutions.
